Story Boards
Storyboards are used to give direction in animations so that animators can understand the flow of the scene that they will eventually work on.
Animatics
Animatics and grey boxing are usually the next steps in the animation process. This is where the "rough draft" of the animation is presented and is eventually redone many times with cleaner animations so that they are ready for the final product.
